SUPERSCAPE

This CD includes two virtual worlds created in Superscape VRT, a
virtual reality authoring package. Also included on the disk is the
Visualiser. You need to use the Visualiser in order to explore the two
or indeed any virtual world created in Superscape's VRT.
Virtual Reality can be used for a wide variety of applications in a
wide variety of industries. It can be used as sales and marketing aid,
a training aid, a design aid or even as an entertainment medium.

THE VIRTUAL OFFICE

The virtual office demonstrates the advantages of VR over conventional
means of presentation and modelling and provides you with
opportunities to interact with many objects in the virtual office,
including the chair, pencil, telephone, calculator or the doors.

Chair

Clicking the back of the chair will push it in the direction it is
facing. Clicking the seat will cause the chair to rotate, allowing the
user to steer the chair. Clicking different parts of the chair stem
will cause the chair to adjust its height. Selecting any of the
castors will spin them. When the chair is pushed the castors will turn
to face the direction of motion.

Calculator and pencil

Try using the calculator...and point and click on the pencil. Clicking
the pencil will cause it to write the word "Spaceball" and activating
the pencil again will cause it to erase the word. Open and close the
office draws.

The telephone

When you have been in the world for a while, the telephone will ring.
A red light will flash and , if you have a sound card with speakers,
you will hear the phone ring. Lifting the handset will cause the phone
to stop ringing.

The dimmer switch and the door

Move the light switch up and down with point, click and drag to dim
and raise the lighting level. Check out what happens when you click on
the paintings in the room to see how quickly Superscape VR software
makes changes to colour and texture.
Both the pictures on the office wall can be set to randomly cycle
through a set of images if the power socket on the wall is switched
on. Clicking the door frame will cause the door to open or shut
depending on the door's current state. If a sound card is installed,
the door will sound a loud knock of slightly varying pitch.

Clock

Between the pictures is a clock. Move closer to it to see if it ticks
louder as you approach it. If your system clock is correct then this
clock will also be correct. If a sound card is installed, the clock
will be heard to tick. The office uses the system clock to make the
exterior appear light or dark depending on the actual time of day. The
exterior of the office demo is dark between 8pm and 4am, reaches full
daylight at 8am and remains constant until 4pm when it again turns to
darkness.

Cupboard Doors

The cupboard doors can be activated by clicking or dragging.
Activating with a click will either cause the doors to swing open or
slam shut. To activate with the mouse, move the mouse cursor onto the
door, then, keeping the mousebutton depressed, move the mouse cursor
left or right. This will open or close the door.

THE AIGUA VIRTUAL WORLD

This virtual world demonstrates rain filling a resevoir which is used
to create electricity and provide water which is cleaned before it
arrives in your home.

The clouds

Try clicking the clouds and watch the rain fill the resevoir.

The turbine

Once the resevoir is full, click on the red cube. Water flowing from
the resevoir starts the turbines. Clicking on the light bulb turns it
on and the demonstration takes you into the water mains, and through a
variety of filters to a kitchen.

The kitchen

Activating the tap handle will turn on the tap which fills the sink
with water. Clicking on the water drains the water from the sink.
Clicking on the window ledge lets the blinds down. The kitchen serves
to illustrate the use of Superscape as a sales tool for promoting the
use of space. A client's basic room dimensions can be reproduced in VR
and furnished with units, in order to gain a visual look and feel
before any real world construction has begun.

BUT THAT'S NOT ALL...

You have not been told everything about the virtual world - you will
want to discover things for yourself. If you wonder about something in
a virtual world, try it. Try pointing and clicking on virtual objects
to see if they have behaviours, characteristics, dynamics or
intelligence applied to them: experiencing a virtual world is a voyage
of discovery - that's what makes it ideal for training and education,
planning and designing... and showing what you mean when you need to
communicate.
